Malta adopted the euro as its official currency on 1 January 2008.Maltese euro coins have a unique design for each denomination, with a common theme for each of the three series of coins.
The minor coins feature Mnajdra temple altar, the middle coins the coat of arms of Malta and the two major coins the Maltese cross.
